A web producer is responsible for managing the technical aspects and, creating the content for websites and web projects assigned. Responsibilities can be different from company to company, but in general, will include creating, formatting and managing the digital content of a website. The position can also include technical expertise, to code, program, design graphics, manage site analytics, or a variety of other skills related to management of the site.
A web producer plans, designs, develops, tests, edits, maintains, and documents look and flow of websites. A thorough knowledge of the latest trends, tools and technologies is a must. For example, exposure/usage and understanding of the social networking ecosystem, social network applications, games and advertising technologies will be necessary.
He/she designs or supervises the design of digitized images, banners, bullets, charts, image maps and other graphics to enhance appearance of site. He/she may also be asked to develop search engine optimization and search engine marketing goals, objectives and strategies.
A more technically oriented web producer will have a background in the field of computer science along with advanced knowledge of various web-enabling computer languages. He/she will actually code the projects to create and maintain the websites.
This person will typically manage many simultaneous projects throughout the full project lifecycle, and be responsible to deliver on time and on budget.
A web producer can work within an interdisciplinary team which can include sales, account managers, designers and developers. Interpersonal skills are required to engage with clients (internal or external) to help them clarify their goals for establishing a website. This position typically reports to a senior producer.
