If you’re interested in the creative possibilities of the visual media, consider entering our bachelor of fine arts program. The film, photography, and visual arts program differs from the B.S. program in cinema and photography by adding coursework in the other fine arts. Rather than focusing on one specific medium, you’ll be encouraged to explore the whole spectrum of visual culture.
Beginning in your freshman year, you’ll take many of the same classes in photography and film production as cinema and photography majors (bring your own digital SLR camera and light meter), and you’ll spend as much time in the darkroom or at an editing station as they do. But you’ll also venture into the television studios for video production classes and trek over to the art studio for lessons in drawing.

Students completing the two-year graduate program will earn an M.F.A. in Screenwriting and be prepared to place, sell, and/or produce their work in the film and television industry. The program is small yet vigorous and nurturing. Our motto: writers write.
By the time students leave the halls of the University, they will have completed three or four feature length screenplays, a television pilot, and several short screenplays. In addition, students will have a strong understanding of the film and television industry and what it takes to sell their work.

Students may pursue either the Bachelor of Fine Arts in filmmaking, or the College Arts Diploma. The first two years of the curriculum stress fundamentals of the filmmaking process and visual storytelling. Students are required to become familiar with every aspect of creating, developing, making, finishing and exhibiting their cinematic work. During the third and fourth years, students train within disciplines in a mentor/student relationship with professional faculty, staff and guest artists. Only students who are successful in meeting the rigorous requirements of conservatory training in the first two years are invited to continue into the advanced levels of the program.

The BFA program in filmmaking is open to students who wish to pursue program emphasis in the areas of animation, cinematography, directing, picture editing and sound design, producing, production design, or screenwriting. At the same time, the School expects students to have or to develop a strong base in the liberal arts and humanities, as well as the physical and social sciences, with additional intensive coursework in film history, aesthetics and criticism.
With this in mind, the School of Filmmaking does not offer a College Arts Diploma to any student who does not already possess a BA, BM, BS, or BFA degree.

The Los Angeles City College Cinema Television Department offers a low-cost, comprehensive hands-on training program that provides both basic and advanced courses in film, video and television studio production. Students may earn a two-year Associate in Arts degree along with a variety of certificates in cinema or television.
Located in modern facilities designed by the renowned architect William L. Pereira, the Department has extensive audio and camera equipment packages for student use as well as a sound stage, two television three-camera studios, numerous 16mm and digital editing rooms, three screening rooms, three non-linear multi-station computer labs and other audio and video postproduction systems.

Theatre students at Hollins participate fully in every aspect of theatre production, including acting, musical theatre, design, directing, stage management, and technical production. At the same time, classroom work provides a solid foundation in history, theory, aesthetics, and technique.
Across the spectrum of the program, three complementary processes — the individual creative process, the collaborative process, and the critical/analytical process — are given equal attention. The course of study culminates in the senior project, which demonstrates the student’s knowledge of theatre, integrates formerly compartmentalized areas of study, and poses new questions and challenges.

Through the Department of Theatre and Dance, the Dance Program offers a major or joint major, leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree; a minor, or the opportunity to take courses in dance for academic credit or as an auditor. Many other opportunities to dance arise each semester in guest artists’ master classes and in faculty- and student-choreographed concerts. January Term courses also provide intensive, interdisciplinary or other options to explore or extend student interest in dance.
Central to our Dance Program is the development of the creative artist and artist/scholar through critical study and regular practice in contemporary, world dance techniques; improvisation and choreography; history, theory, and cultural studies; experiential anatomy and kinesiology; and performance.
Tagged:The headline says it all. Tuition costs have escalated to the point where students are demonstrating. In fact, it's not unusual for a student to graduate from school hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.
One strategy that is often overlooked when choosing a school is to talk to people who are successful in the career you want to pursue. If you don't know anyone in your chosen field, you can often find much of this valuable information online.
The more entrepreneurial individual might go so far as to enroll in the "University of Hard Knocks" and just go for it. The reasoning is simple: he can start his career behind the wheel of a Bentley, instead of owing his college what a Bentley costs by the time he graduates.
We're by no means advocating dropping out of school, or not pursuing an education. However, we are advocating that you look before you leap.
