Overview
When people think about schools and education, traditional schools are what they usually think of. Traditional schools can be defined as location-based schools with pre-defined curriculum taught by the usual methods—lectures, textbooks, homework, tests, etc. For certain academic subjects—and for certain people—this method of education works well. For some, it’s best to be removed from “everyday life” to learn in a dedicated environment, along with others who are doing the same thing. It can be a good stepping stone for life.
The potential negatives to traditional education are that first of all, it can be quite costly, especially if the subject matter is specialized; and secondly, some career choices and skills aren’t best taught in an academic environment, but rather in a hands-on, real-life environment. It really depends on the individual, and on the profession being taught. The important thing is to choose wisely; investigate different kinds of schools to decide whether the traditional method is right for you.
