Los Angeles City College – Television

DESCRIPTION

The Los Angeles City College Cinema Television Department offers a low-cost, comprehensive hands-on training program that provides both basic and advanced courses in film, video and television studio production. Students may earn a two-year Associate in Arts degree along with a variety of certificates in cinema or television.

Located in modern facilities designed by the renowned architect William L. Pereira, the Department has extensive audio and camera equipment packages for student use as well as a sound stage, two television three-camera studios, numerous 16mm and digital editing rooms, three screening rooms, three non-linear multi-station computer labs and other audio and video postproduction systems.

ADVANTAGES

Television has two three-camera studios with Teleprompters, character generators and switchers. Studio B has been upgraded (Summer 2009) to Hi-Definition. Additionally there are several eMac digital non-linear editing systems for advanced students.

The Television program’s first-semester consists of a basic studio production class, a lighting and audio course, and a history of television. The specialization in Radio is intended to provide students with a background in the business and production of radio programming. In addition to conventional radio formats and uses, the student can also explore the development of new and alternative radio programming distribution channels, including Internet and satellite. Students also have the opportunity to earn non-tuition credits working in significant positions for WERS-FM or WECB-AM.

The Visual and Media Arts Foundations offers the student a broad theoretical, historical and practical introduction to the visual and media arts.

Radio Connection offers courses in On Air Broadcasting: These include instruction in being a DJ, Talk Show Host, Weather Person, Sports or Newscaster, Voice Over Announcer and more. Radio Connection also offers courses in Radio Programming and other off-the-air Radio skills and trades. Additionally, Radio Connection students get a Radio-Show-In-A-Box which is includes all the hardware necessary for the student to produce and broadcast their very own Internet Radio Show.

Radio Connection features the mentor apprentice method of teaching students the necessary skills by having them work one-on-one with their mentor on real world projects. Radio Connection enjoys working relationships with mentors in radio and television stations across the United States and Canada.

Radio Connection is accredited by the National Private School Alliance. It is not a Title IV School. There is a curriculum that is followed so that all students learn how the skills required by an on-air personality. Business skills are part of the curriculum.

ADVANTAGES
Choice of locations, real world experience, one-on-one training and attractive pricing are the main advantages of Radio Connection, and that’s saying a lot. For some, it serves as a catalyst and provides the ultimate learning and network situation…others can find they are simply in over their heads.
