Overview
Digital design is probably the most dynamic of the many possible careers in design, because it is based on computer technology which constantly changes and evolves. Where digital design barely existed a decade or two ago, today it is already vastly different than when it first appeared. While graphic design focuses on a variety of media, digital design focuses on the computer-generated elements of design, such as animation, 3-D, multimedia and other applications. If you’re artistically inclined with a desire to be on the cutting edge of technology, this might just be the career for you.
In studying digital design, you’ll learn the state-of-the art computer hardware and software to assist you in your designs. You’ll learn about 2-D and 3-D computer-generated images (CGI), the techniques of motion and animation, and how to maximize computer technology to make cutting-edge presentations in a variety of settings. You’ll soon be ready for a fulfilling career creating eye-catching, mesmerizing multimedia displays. But be advised: technology changes so quickly that the things you learn today might be obsolete tomorrow. Part of the fulfillment you’ll have as a digital designer is that you will never stop learning.

Character design, story structure and strong animation fundamentals are used by students to create a short, animated film project in their senior year. Fundamentals and the development of the “craft” of animation are stressed. Students may produce animations fusing both traditional and computer techniques. Non-character animation focuses on visual effects, abstract animation or the motion of inanimate objects. Students are encouraged to combine media to produce original, creative work and content.
