DESCRIPTION

Learn patternmaking and draping; and create original designs in career sportswear and dresses, active sportswear and suits and coats. FDP majors also study costume history; assist in fashion show productions on and off campus; and create fashion graphics, technical sketches, textile designs, and patterns using industry-specific Gerber, Kaledo, and off-the-shelf Mac-based applications.

You will create sketches and final designs critiqued by professional designers, merchandisers, and product developers for inclusion in Stephens’ spring student-managed fashion show. In the capstone senior collection course, you will develop a line in your preferred market niche and end the year with a professional portfolio to enhance your job search.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Stephens professors combine years of teaching experience with industry expertise. They share with students their firsthand knowledge as designers, business owners and fashion consultants. Stephens faculty have presented juried fashion designs and research for the International Textile and Apparel Association, the Costume Society of America, and other design and art shows such as the Fashion Group International.

FINANCIAL AID

More than 95 percent of Stephens students receive some form of merit- or need-based aid. All qualified applicants who have been accepted for admission are eligible for merit scholarships, award, and grant consideration if they meet appropriate criteria

SCHOLARSHIPS

A student is considered for scholarships at the same time the Admission Committee evaluates her file. Merit scholarships are based on a student’s grade point average, ACT or SAT I score

SUMMARY
