The department is committed to excellence in all programs and strives to combine curricular flexibility and a rigorous mix of experiences with opportunities for serious, focused study in art and design. The department benefits from the Museum of Fine Arts (MOFA) for student and faculty exhibitions. Additionally, the department serves as a resource to the rest of the University, providing exhibitions, visiting artist lectures, and foundation courses for related programs.

Course selection encompasses history, theory, and practice. Studies may include ceramics, electronic media, design, drawing, installation, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Depending upon personal development, students may choose to work in a variety of media or in the case of BFA to concentrate in an area of interest.

SUMMARY

The Department of Art at FSU is a research driven community of students and faculty dedicated to the dynamic interrelationship of ideas, processes and practices. By crossing geographical and disciplinary boundaries, we both discover and create new opportunities for practicing art and design. We cultivate critical, creative and compassionate thinking in an evolving global environment, developing and pursuing innovation while valuing our traditions. We foster a vibrant culture of creative problem-solvers, responsible both to themselves and to the needs of the larger communities to which they are connected. We celebrate the unique role that art and design play in the construction of culture and embrace our duty to advance and share the knowledge gained through our creative research.

  • Tuition Costs Are Rising At Unprecedented Rates

    http://www.schoolsforme.net

The headline says it all.  Tuition costs have escalated to the point where students are demonstrating.  In fact, it's not unusual for a student to graduate from school hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

This makes it imperative to spend some time choosing the right school to help you achieve your goals.  Sadly, in this age of hyper-inflated tuition costs, a college degree does not guarantee a job, much less a career.

One strategy that is often overlooked when choosing a school is to talk to people who are successful in the career you want to pursue.  If you don't know anyone in your chosen field, you can often find much of this valuable information online.

The more entrepreneurial individual might go so far as to enroll in the "University of Hard Knocks" and just go for it.  The reasoning is simple: he can start his career behind the wheel of a Bentley, instead of owing his college what a Bentley costs by the time he graduates.

We're by no means advocating dropping out of school, or not pursuing an education.  However, we are advocating that you look before you leap.

Schools publish average salary figures that suggest most grads will reap rich rewards, but for many the "average" is a distant dream.

The MBA in the corner office, fresh out of business school with a six-figure paycheck, is a standard trope of Corporate America. Every incoming student has heard rags-to-riches tales of that gilded certification leading to giant paychecks and even bigger bonuses. But how often do these MBA fairy tales actually come true? According to new research: not as often as you think.Read more »
