DESCRIPTION

Through the Department of Theatre and Dance, the Dance Program offers a major or joint major, leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree; a minor, or the opportunity to take courses in dance for academic credit or as an auditor. Many other opportunities to dance arise each semester in guest artists’ master classes and in faculty- and student-choreographed concerts. January Term courses also provide intensive, interdisciplinary or other options to explore or extend student interest in dance.

Central to our Dance Program is the development of the creative artist and artist/scholar through critical study and regular practice in contemporary, world dance techniques; improvisation and choreography; history, theory, and cultural studies; experiential anatomy and kinesiology; and performance.

ADVANTAGES

The Dance Company of Middlebury (DCM) is selected each year by audition, and is open to sophomores through seniors and alumni. For the 2009-2010 season, the Dance Company of Middlebury, directed by Penny Campbell, will create an evening of dances with themes and music that link US and Caribbean cultures. The company will perform on campus and tour to the Dominican Republic. First year students are encouraged to get to know the Dance Program by taking classes, auditioning for other performances, and attending as many dance concerts as they can before seeking involvement with DCM in their sophomore year.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Our faculty of four dance professionals, two musician/composers and a lighting designer/technical director is further diversified and extended by a robust calendar of guest artists and performances. In addition, a lively group of student-run clubs and associations responds to current interests in dance/movement from aikido and ballet to yoga and zouk.

FINANCIAL AID

Middlebury makes every effort to help all candidates obtain the financial aid they need in the form of grants, loans, and work/study jobs. In the case of international students, Middlebury follows a need-aware admissions policy.

  • Tuition Costs Are Rising At Unprecedented Rates

    http://www.schoolsforme.net

The headline says it all.  Tuition costs have escalated to the point where students are demonstrating.  In fact, it's not unusual for a student to graduate from school hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

This makes it imperative to spend some time choosing the right school to help you achieve your goals.  Sadly, in this age of hyper-inflated tuition costs, a college degree does not guarantee a job, much less a career.

One strategy that is often overlooked when choosing a school is to talk to people who are successful in the career you want to pursue.  If you don't know anyone in your chosen field, you can often find much of this valuable information online.

The more entrepreneurial individual might go so far as to enroll in the "University of Hard Knocks" and just go for it.  The reasoning is simple: he can start his career behind the wheel of a Bentley, instead of owing his college what a Bentley costs by the time he graduates.

We're by no means advocating dropping out of school, or not pursuing an education.  However, we are advocating that you look before you leap.

Schools publish average salary figures that suggest most grads will reap rich rewards, but for many the "average" is a distant dream.

The MBA in the corner office, fresh out of business school with a six-figure paycheck, is a standard trope of Corporate America. Every incoming student has heard rags-to-riches tales of that gilded certification leading to giant paychecks and even bigger bonuses. But how often do these MBA fairy tales actually come true? According to new research: not as often as you think.Read more »
