DESCRIPTION

From sketching to sewing, pattern-making to fashion show production, our comprehensive curriculum has established Moore’s Fashion Design Department as one of the most distinguished and acclaimed fashion design programs in the nation.

Our faculty of accomplished designers, practicing professionals, successful alumnae and guest critics and speakers mentor our students throughout their studies. Teaching from experience and by example, our faculty participates in critiques and portfolio reviews, while helping to connect students to valuable internship and employment opportunities.

ADVANTAGES

Classes regularly visit designers’ studios and showrooms, and retailers and suppliers in both Philadelphia and New York to learn first-hand from experts about competition, fabric buying, display and production. These experiences allow students to develop a personal perspective of both the creative and business sides of the industry.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Fashion Design majors have many choices in internship selection. From working in nationally and internationally renowned design studios and niche boutiques, to placements in corporate settings, these majors receive hand-on training in women’s fashion, children’s wear, men’s wear, active wear, outerwear, bridal attire and accessories. They also gain experience in the business standards of the fashion industry. In addition, students may explore related fields including merchandising, trend forecasting and retail operations.

FINANCIAL AID

Financing a student’s education can be thought of as a partnership among the student, her family, federal and state governments and Moore College of Art & Design. Moore wants qualified students to focus on earning their degrees without excessive concern over how to fund their educations. Moore is willing to make every effort to assist the student and her family to meet her educational costs. However, the College believes that the primary responsibility to finance a student’s education rests with the student and her family.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Moore College of Art & Design attracts qualified students from diverse economic backgrounds through its extensive financial aid programs. A private education should be affordable to all deserving students. In 2008-2009, approximately 85 percent of Moore’s undergraduate students attended school with the assistance of scholarships.

CERTIFICATIONS

Moore College of Art & Design is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), Pennsylvania State Council of Education (PSCE) and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA formerly known as FIDER).

SUMMARY

As the first and only women’s visual arts college in the nation, Moore’s BFA program prides itself on educating women for careers in the visual arts, and providing the support they need to become leaders in their respective fields.

  • Tuition Costs Are Rising At Unprecedented Rates

    http://www.schoolsforme.net

The headline says it all.  Tuition costs have escalated to the point where students are demonstrating.  In fact, it's not unusual for a student to graduate from school hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

This makes it imperative to spend some time choosing the right school to help you achieve your goals.  Sadly, in this age of hyper-inflated tuition costs, a college degree does not guarantee a job, much less a career.

One strategy that is often overlooked when choosing a school is to talk to people who are successful in the career you want to pursue.  If you don't know anyone in your chosen field, you can often find much of this valuable information online.

The more entrepreneurial individual might go so far as to enroll in the "University of Hard Knocks" and just go for it.  The reasoning is simple: he can start his career behind the wheel of a Bentley, instead of owing his college what a Bentley costs by the time he graduates.

We're by no means advocating dropping out of school, or not pursuing an education.  However, we are advocating that you look before you leap.

Schools publish average salary figures that suggest most grads will reap rich rewards, but for many the "average" is a distant dream.

The MBA in the corner office, fresh out of business school with a six-figure paycheck, is a standard trope of Corporate America. Every incoming student has heard rags-to-riches tales of that gilded certification leading to giant paychecks and even bigger bonuses. But how often do these MBA fairy tales actually come true? According to new research: not as often as you think.Read more »
