DESCRIPTION

From narrative to documentary to experimental film, film serves as both a cultural force and an artistic medium. The Film Studies Program introduces students to the academic study of film from a variety of critical and disciplinary perspectives. As part of the liberal arts tradition, film is studied in relation to all the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Courses expose students to cultural, historical, formal, and theoretical analyses of films from a range of world cinematic traditions. In addition, students study the language of imagery, a language built on a vocabulary of light, sound, camera angles, editing patterns, set design, costume, and music. New media are also explored and opportunities to study film/video production are offered.

ADVANTAGES

The Five College Student Film and Video Festival is an annual event featuring original films and videos by Five College students. Founded in 1994, the festival has become an important venue for film students to meet, collaborate, and share their productions with their peers and with the college film community. Students from each of the Five Colleges organize the festival with the assistance of a Student Director from the host college and a faculty advisor. The festival, which is sponsored by the Five College Film Council, is a competitive event held at the end of the spring semester. Submissions are evaluated by a jury of students and film faculty from each of the Five Colleges. Selected works are shown at the festival and awards are given for the best works in designated categories.

  • Tuition Costs Are Rising At Unprecedented Rates

    http://www.schoolsforme.net

The headline says it all.  Tuition costs have escalated to the point where students are demonstrating.  In fact, it's not unusual for a student to graduate from school hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

This makes it imperative to spend some time choosing the right school to help you achieve your goals.  Sadly, in this age of hyper-inflated tuition costs, a college degree does not guarantee a job, much less a career.

One strategy that is often overlooked when choosing a school is to talk to people who are successful in the career you want to pursue.  If you don't know anyone in your chosen field, you can often find much of this valuable information online.

The more entrepreneurial individual might go so far as to enroll in the "University of Hard Knocks" and just go for it.  The reasoning is simple: he can start his career behind the wheel of a Bentley, instead of owing his college what a Bentley costs by the time he graduates.

We're by no means advocating dropping out of school, or not pursuing an education.  However, we are advocating that you look before you leap.

Schools publish average salary figures that suggest most grads will reap rich rewards, but for many the "average" is a distant dream.

The MBA in the corner office, fresh out of business school with a six-figure paycheck, is a standard trope of Corporate America. Every incoming student has heard rags-to-riches tales of that gilded certification leading to giant paychecks and even bigger bonuses. But how often do these MBA fairy tales actually come true? According to new research: not as often as you think.Read more »
