DESCRIPTION

Mount Holyoke College’s Department of Music offers a program exploring the history, theory, literature, performance, analysis, and synthesis of music. Majors, minors and students with a passion for music are active composers, conductors, and performers. The whole campus reverberates with music that refuses to be silent.

The music department offers ensemble experiences ranging from Klezmer Band, jazz, and West African Music Ensemble to Symphony Orchestra and large and small choirs. Other performance opportunities include chamber music and early music. Students may also enroll in individual performance studies.

ADVANTAGES

Faculty projects reflect broad interests in research, composition, and performance, as well as the development of new methods of teaching. Members of the faculty give concerts on campus, around the country, and around the world.

Students electing the music major have been accepted in graduate programs of their choice nationwide. Mount Holyoke musicians have been welcomed into performing groups around the world.

  • Tuition Costs Are Rising At Unprecedented Rates

    The headline says it all.  Tuition costs have escalated to the point where students are demonstrating.  In fact, it's not unusual for a student to graduate from school hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

    This makes it imperative to spend some time choosing the right school to help you achieve your goals.  Sadly, in this age of hyper-inflated tuition costs, a college degree does not guarantee a job, much less a career.

    One strategy that is often overlooked when choosing a school is to talk to people who are successful in the career you want to pursue.  If you don't know anyone in your chosen field, you can often find much of this valuable information online.

    The more entrepreneurial individual might go so far as to enroll in the "University of Hard Knocks" and just go for it.  The reasoning is simple: he can start his career behind the wheel of a Bentley, instead of owing his college what a Bentley costs by the time he graduates.

    We're by no means advocating dropping out of school, or not pursuing an education.  However, we are advocating that you look before you leap.
