JEFF GOLDBLUM:
Do we still need teachers?
GEORGE LUCAS:
The most powerful thing in teaching is to be able to have a one-on-one relationship with a student, to be one human being having personal contact with another human being. Nothing is more powerful than that.
JEFF GOLDBLUM:
Imagine being part of a class held simultaneously in a dozen different cities or a dozen different countries. Think about learning your chosen career not in a school room but as an apprentice working side by side with an older and wiser mentor. What we learn in school is ultimately more important than how we go to school because education is the key to our future and the future is where we will spend the rest of our lives.

Smart job-seekers know they want to be involved in these industries but they also know they need to have the right experience. While attending college is certainly a worthwhile option, there are three primary considerations to be aware of before deciding whether college is the best choice.
The first concern is the high sticker price of higher education. Attending college can be expensive. In fact, according to a recent New York Times article, college tuition has actually increased despite the economic downturn. That's right - college students can expect to pay more than ever for a degree.

An excellent way to begin your career in audio & music recording, radio broadcasting, or film production is through a Career School program. Career Schools are professional, trade or vocational programs designed specifically for adult students who wish to become trained in a specific field. Many of these programs are designed around the principles of the private mentor-apprentice relationship, allowing for real world work-study and on the job training. Instruction can be found in most major cities in the U.S. and Canada, with classes occurring in real recording studios, radio stations and film shoots. These programs will usually lead to a certificate of training instead of a traditional degree.

You know the end of your favorite film? The one you've watched a million times and always smile when they get to that special scene, that climactic scene, right at the end...? That one.Where do you think it started? It started at the beginning of the film. The filmmakers crafted, built and brought you along on that journey which made the ending pay off that much more. They did the work.
Let's look at the question again...is a degree worth getting when pursuing a career in media/arts?
