Life in an Advertising Agency

These days, it seems as though advertising is the ‘it’ field. This information comes from movies and television shows. Though the life in an advertising agency is indeed fun, exciting and has a lot of opportunity, it is also stressful, difficult and requires long hours.

Advertising teams are usually small, except in large companies. For the most part they act as liaisons between the firm and the advertising or promotion agency to which many advertising or promotional functions are contracted out.

Though many view those in advertising negatively sometimes, seeing them as tricksters or somehow shady characters just because their job is to come up with ways to sell somebody a certain product. This is obviously not true, it is a very worthwhile and respected profession, oftentimes calling for more creative and intelligent minds.

To get started in advertising, one must find an internship at an advertising firm. As an intern, life in an advertising agency will prove to be very educational. Interns learn how the business works from inside the company, working with those who are experienced. Interns get to know the market and understand the standard of ideas they need to bring to the profession.

Also, another misconception people have about advertising is that they assume everyone in advertising makes a lot of money. Well, while many can and do make money, it is a long and difficult road. First, you have to intern, then get a job as an assistant, work your way up to make it onto a team, and if you are lucky, a management position.

Life in an advertising agency can be extremely difficult. Those who are creative souls looking to enter advertising because they want to put their innovative ideas to use have to remember that advertising is still a professional business. Before any given campaign you will work on, there will be dozens of meeting, talks with bosses, managers and CEOs. Your creative ideas will be put to the test, you will have to change your ideas to better suit the market and make others happy.

Advertising is not just a glamorous, fun-filled career. In fact, life in an advertising agency is unlike anything the media portrays. It is a mix of everything you see and hear. It is a rewarding career, though you must put in a lot of hours in order for it to be this way. It can allow for a lot of travel, but you must pay your dues.

  • Tuition Costs Are Rising At Unprecedented Rates

    http://www.schoolsforme.net

The headline says it all.  Tuition costs have escalated to the point where students are demonstrating.  In fact, it's not unusual for a student to graduate from school hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

This makes it imperative to spend some time choosing the right school to help you achieve your goals.  Sadly, in this age of hyper-inflated tuition costs, a college degree does not guarantee a job, much less a career.

One strategy that is often overlooked when choosing a school is to talk to people who are successful in the career you want to pursue.  If you don't know anyone in your chosen field, you can often find much of this valuable information online.

The more entrepreneurial individual might go so far as to enroll in the "University of Hard Knocks" and just go for it.  The reasoning is simple: he can start his career behind the wheel of a Bentley, instead of owing his college what a Bentley costs by the time he graduates.

We're by no means advocating dropping out of school, or not pursuing an education.  However, we are advocating that you look before you leap.

The MBA in the corner office, fresh out of business school with a six-figure paycheck, is a standard trope of Corporate America. Every incoming student has heard rags-to-riches tales of that gilded certification leading to giant paychecks and even bigger bonuses. But how often do these MBA fairy tales actually come true? According to new research: not as often as you think.Read more »
